neZEH project. Hotels with almost zero consumption

neZEH European project for renovation of hotels a almost zero consumption buildings

The neZEH project (nearly Zero Energy Hotels), is a European initiative which intends to convert the existing hotels to buildings of almost zero consumption due to its impact on the environment.

The European Union aims to reduce dependency energy and especially CO2 emissions in this sector, Given that currently buildings consume almost 40% of all energy in Europe and emit 36% of greenhouse gases greenhouse.

The aim is to create more efficient buildings and sustainable through the incorporation of new technologies and the proper management of processes and services as actions that will lead to said objective of reduction of energy consumption.

This initiative seeks to achieve the renewal of the existing hotels, through the following strategies of performance:

Energy consumption building almost null

As established in the Energy Efficiency Directive in buildings, the Consumption Building is defined almost Null , the one who achieves; Demand almost zero energy (necessary energy that, for a given a building envelope and the climatic conditions of its environment or location, we must contribute to maintain the inner comfort).

The contribution of Energy or demand required must be covered with renewable energy sources , including here those generated by the same facilities or near them, produced "in situ" or by the environment.

Therefore, the neZEH project intends to be framed within those stimulus policies for the renovation of buildings existing at a level of almost zero energy consumption, as established in the European Efficiency Directive buildings (2010/31/EU) , so that contributes to the objectives set for the year 2020, and supports member countries to achieve this goal.

This project will last three years, from 2013 to 2016 and will be financed through the Intelligent Energy Europe programme, which aims to promote sustainability solutions that promote the creation of new technologies to improve energy efficiency, use renewable energy and reduce emissions contaminants.

Benefits for the hotel sector the neZEH project

With the application of this program it is expected that will achieve the following objectives:

efficient hotels

The neZEH project in Spain

Last year 2014 this project was presented in Spain in the framework of FiturGreen, by Rodrigo Morell, general director of CREARA ENERGY EXPERTS, leading Spanish company in savings and energy efficiency , which is part of the Committee AENOR Standardization Technician 216, “Management Systems of Energy Efficiency” , within the Energy program Intelligent for Europe (Intelligent Energy Europe), to be able to implement energy saving measures that allow achieving up to 75% savings in SME establishments.

In said presentation, they established themselves as main objectives of this program in our country, to achieve savings in energy consumption and the reduction of emissions, through of measures that will reduce demand, as well as through the monitoring, the replacement of inefficient equipment, the improvement of their thermal envelope and the use of renewable energy to reduce maintenance costs, energy dependence and achieve greater projection international.

The implementation of the project neZEH in Spain is being carried out in several phases, in In the first phase, the concept of “ hotel of almost null energy ”, establishing a catalog of the characteristics that they must comply with, and in a second phase, two hotels are selected – already in operation – to participate in the pilot project.

They will receive free technical advice and support, from the first study or pre-audit until study and advice in the necessary improvement measures, the alternatives of financing and the study of the amortization periods of investments, so they will also benefit from training courses in energy saving.
